The handwriting of the Rolling Stones Archive logo belongs to early member of the band, Ian “Stu” Stewart. He became their tour manager in 1963, and played piano on every studio album between 1964 and 1983, with the exception of Their Satanic Majesties and Beggars Banquet. Stu was adored and respected by the Rolling Stones until his sudden and young death, at the age of 47, in 1985. When the Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame four years later, they requested Stu’s name be included in their citation.
Stu’s handwriting is found throughout the archive because he meticulously detailed every track on every recording while he was alive.
